COMMITTEES

Currently, the San Diego LAFCO has one standing committee that provides technical advice to staff members: Special Districts Advisory Committee.  LAFCO also may establish ad hoc committees that exist for short periods of time.

The Special Districts Advisory Committee is comprised of 16 members, each serving a four year term.  Members are appointed by the independent special districts through an election process administered by LAFCO staff.

In addition to the advisory committee, the San Diego LAFCO supports the Task Force on Fire Protection and Emergency Medical Services and a LAFCO Subcommittee on Structural Fire Protection and Emergency Medical Services.  Evolving from a task force originally established by LAFCO in 1999, the task force functions independently and provides advice to both San Diego LAFCO and the San Diego Board of Supervisors on all matters relating to emergency services.  To represent a broad range of entities involved in emergency services, the task force has members from a variety of agencies and organizations.  Representatives are selected by their sponsoring body, and meet on a quarterly basis.  In addition, there are several task force subcommittees that focus on specific issues and present recommendations for consideration by the entire task force.

On February 6, 2006, the San Diego LAFCO established an ad hoc subcommittee of commissioners to provide advice to LAFCO staff on the reorganization of structural fire protection and emergency medical services. Approximately 3-4 meetings will be held in 2006.  LAFCO Subcommittee meetings are tentatively scheduled after each regularly scheduled LAFCO meeting.  Subcommittee members include Commissioners Andy Vanderlaan, Dianne Jacob, Andy Menshek, and Donna Frye.
